How to Rank New Websites: A Realistic 90-Day Plan

New websites do not rank overnight — but they can rank faster than you think. A realistic, step-by-step 90-day plan.

How to Rank New Websites: A Realistic 90-Day Plan

New websites do not rank overnight — Google needs time to crawl, index and trust them. But “it takes a year” is a myth too. With the right foundations, most local business sites see meaningful rankings within 90 days. Here is the realistic plan we follow.

Days 1–14: Foundations

  • Launch with technical SEO in place: HTTPS, mobile-first design, clean URLs, XML sitemap and schema markup — our SEO friendly website checklist covers every item.
  • Verify the site in Google Search Console and submit your sitemap on day one.
  • Set up Google Business Profile — for local searches this often matters more than the website itself in the early weeks.

Days 15–45: Content and local signals

  • Publish one genuinely useful page or guide per week, each targeting a specific search your customers make.
  • Ensure your name, address and phone number are identical across your website, Business Profile and any directories.
  • Ask early happy customers for Google reviews — fresh reviews are rocket fuel for the local map pack.
  • Start weaving internal links between new content and your service pages.

Days 46–90: Authority and iteration

  • Check Search Console weekly: which queries show impressions but few clicks? Improve those titles and descriptions first.
  • Earn a handful of local links — suppliers, partners, community organisations, local press. Five real links beat five hundred directory spam links.
  • Fix anything slow: run PageSpeed Insights and act on the red items, usually images (see image optimization for SEO).

What “ranking” realistically looks like

Expect your brand name to rank within days. Expect long-tail local searches (“emergency electrician Coulsdon”) within weeks. Expect competitive head terms (“web design London”) to take sustained effort over many months. Anyone promising otherwise should be filed under SEO mistakes to avoid.

The sites that rank fastest are not the cleverest — they are the ones with solid foundations and consistent weekly effort.
